In theory, it sounds perfect: Provide an intermediary solution that gives business users access to the information they need without having to involve the IT department in capturing every detail. However, like a unicorn, finding a true self-service BI solution that delivers is, well, the stuff of legend.
Lawson also points out that even a true, self-service BI requires the help of IT for behind-the-scenes issues, so there’s no getting out of it completely.
